WMU Global Engagement Program Registration

Student Information




  1. The components of Year 1: Global Learning for All include:
    • Fall Semester: GIST 2000 | Introduction to Global Studies (Global Classroom) | 3 credits
    • Spring Semester: GIST 3100 | Virtual Study Abroad | 3 Credits
  2. Specific course listings may be subject to change due to availability or curriculum changes in the program. I will be notified of any changes to course listings.

  3. There is no additional program fee for Year 1: Global Learning for All of the Global Engagement Program. Program costs are included in block tuition rates and fees. Additional tuition and fees may apply to credits taken beyond block tuition allowances.

  4. Participants may withdraw from the WMU Global Engagement Program at any time. The University’s tuition refund policy stipulates the amount of tuition and fees that are refunded to a student who withdraws from all or a portion of classes during a semester. The dates and corresponding refund percentages are published by the Office of the Registrar in its academic catalogs.

  5. To receive the $500 study-abroad scholarship, participants must enroll in and pass all required courses as defined by the University grading system.

  6. The following criteria regulate the use and application of the $500 study-abroad scholarship:  
    Can be applied to any virtual or travel study abroad program during a student's undergraduate program.
    • May be combined with other study-abroad scholarships from the Haenicke Institute for Global Education and other University offices.
    • Will be applied to a student's WMU account if and when he/she enrolls in a study abroad program.  
    • Cannot be recuperated for any purposes beyond application to a student account during a study-abroad enrolled semester.
  7. Global Engagement Program participants are expected to actively read, respond to and participate in program communication and activities.

  8. By committing to Year 1: Global Learning for All, the Haenicke Institute for Global Education has permission to register you for the fall and spring courses as appropriate.

  9. Upon completing Year 1: Global Learning for All of the Global Engagement Program, I will be given the opportunity to continue in the program. I understand that I must sign-up to continue to Year 2: Global Collaboration.

  10. The WMU Global Engagement Program is managed by the Haenicke Institute for Global Education. Participants should direct concerns, difficulties and requests for flexibility to the program’s
    co-managers:
    The WMU Global Engagement Program can be flexible to each participant’s needs. Participants are expected to bring requests for flexibility to the program co-managers as early as possible to allow for the appropriate intervention.
